Life can be challenging for military spouses, with partners who can be away for months at a time in unstable situations. Kayleigh McDine is proving that Military Mums can be successful in running their own flexible business whilst juggling family life. Kayleigh runs Mini First Aid Highlands which offers first aid classes for all the family right across the Highlands, Islands and Morayshire.

Kayleigh says:

“There is a sense of pride that comes with being a military wife. However as my husband Ben's career relies on me being at home to look after our children, there are many challenges. The feeling of being unsettled or isolated can be tough. I want to prove to people that women can be strong during the toughest times and that setting up a successful business as a military mum is possible.”

Kayleigh, from Inverness, knows that it is even more important in remote areas for families to have first aid skills and knowledge. She says:

“The Highlands are more rural when compared to other regions in Scotland. People from Inverness know that the Islands are not always accessible by vehicle. Would you know how to perform CPR? Do you know the nearest location of your local defibrillator? This was my whole inspiration to get the parents, grandparents, carers and children of the North of Scotland able to respond if there was a first aid situation until the first aid responder or emergency services arrive.”

Kayleigh is no stranger to a variety of first aid situations, as Mum to two young daughters aged 1 and 4 as well as being a local swimming instructor.
